Pan-African Filmmaking Bootcamp: KAP Academy and SOPA Train Africa’s Next Storytellers

KAP Film & Television Academy and SOPA (School of Performing Arts, Benin Republic) have launched the inaugural Pan-African Filmmaking Bootcamp, a new programme designed to train the next generation of African storytellers.

The programme follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in February 2026. This agreement brings both institutions together to strengthen film education, talent development, and creative exchange across Africa.

The first cohort will train 20 emerging filmmakers in an intensive, hands-on 12-week programme across Benin Republic and Nigeria.

Through the Pan-African Filmmaking Bootcamp, participants will receive practical training across multiple filmmaking disciplines.

The Pan-African Filmmaking Bootcamp Experience

This bootcamp gives participants practical training, mentorship, and real production experience across two countries.

Training begins at SOPA in Benin Republic, where participants spend four weeks building core filmmaking skills and working on creative projects.

The cohort then moves to Lagos, Nigeria, for a one-week industry immersion. Here, participants gain direct exposure to one of Africa’s busiest film and media hubs.

The programme ends at KAP Village, the creative campus of KAP Film & Television Academy. This final phase focuses on production work, collaboration, and project completion under professional guidance.

Participants will train in storytelling, directing, cinematography, producing, editing, and post-production.

How the Pan-African Filmmaking Bootcamp Prepares Filmmakers

The African film industry is growing fast. Demand for skilled filmmakers is rising across cinema, streaming, and digital platforms.

This programme focuses on practical training. Participants learn by doing. They work on real sets, solve production challenges, and build a portfolio of work during the programme.

The goal is simple: to prepare filmmakers who can work immediately in the industry.

Why the Pan-African Filmmaking Bootcamp Matters

The KAP–SOPA partnership strengthens film education across West Africa. It also builds a bridge between Nigeria and Benin Republic for creative collaboration.

By bringing together 20 young Beninese creatives, KAP Academy and SOPA are building a new network of filmmakers ready to tell authentic African stories that connect with both local and global audiences.

This network goes beyond the classroom. It creates long-term collaboration between emerging filmmakers across the continent.

Investing in Africa’s Creative Future

African film continues to gain global attention. But strong stories need strong training systems behind them.

This bootcamp responds to that need. It supports young creatives with structure, mentorship, and real production experience.

It also supports the wider creative economy. Film creates jobs, builds industries, and opens doors across media, fashion, tourism, and entertainment.

A New Chapter for African Storytelling

This programme marks the beginning of a deeper collaboration between KAP Academy and SOPA.

Both institutions share a clear goal: to train filmmakers who can tell African stories with skill, confidence, and global reach.

Applications have begun and programme updates will be announced soon.

The Pan-African Filmmaking Bootcamp marks the beginning of a long-term commitment to developing African creative talent.
