A Man and His Art: On Kunle Afolayan’s Interview At Dubai EXPO 2020.

From his first produced movie – Irapada, to the latest – A Naija Christmas, it is evident that he has grown in the art of film production, also, his stories preserve culture and mirror the society.

At the Dubai EXPO 2020, Kunle Afolayan was present as the Nigerian representative for the film session.

Dubai EXPO is a platform that inspires the world for sustainability, opportunity and mobility by bringing over 119 countries together for interaction. There are pavilions set up for each of these countries to showcase their immersive culture, art, creativity, music, business, technology and every other thing that makes one country unique from another.

Simply put, Dubai EXPO is the world in a place.

In Kunle Afolayan’s interview at Dubai EXPO 2020, he talked about how he has managed to stay atop his game and be a game changer for the Nigerian film industry especially through the production of October 1 and Figurine.

“For me, film is a tool. I don’t just make films for entertainment, I make films that will stand the test of time” He explained how films should be evergreen and universal in the sense that they address socio-political issues that are relatable to people in real time and not in the make- believe world of actors and characters only.

In other words, films should mirror the human interaction with his world, people and his environment and should serve as a correctional tool for ills and vices. It should open a man’s mind to possibilities and the world around him.
