Over 100 OYO STATE INDIGENES Graduate from KAP Academy’s Filmmaking Residency at KAP Film Village & Resort
On October 15th, 2025, the KAP Film & Television Academy hosted a grand Graduation and Screening Ceremony for over 100 talented young filmmakers at the stunning KAP Film Village & Resort in Igbojaye, Oyo State.





The event marked the conclusion of a 10-day intensive Filmmaking Residency Program, which brought together participants from all 33 local government areas of Oyo State.









The residency focused on equipping participants with hands-on experience across all areas of filmmaking, including screenwriting, directing, cinematography, producing, editing, and sound design.
8 Short Films. 10 Days. 33 LGAs. One Goal — To Shape the Future of Nollywood
The evening featured the screening of eight original short films created by the residency groups. Each film stood out for its creativity, teamwork, and authentic storytelling that reflected Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.
The award-winning films were:
- The Volunteer (Group 1) – Best Film
- Jenny’s Day (Group 7) – Second Place
- Ireti (Group 2) – Third Place
- Aremo (Group 3) – Honourable Mention
The winning groups also received monetary rewards from Mr. Kunle Afolayan, Founder of the KAP Film & Television Academy, as an incentive to continue collaborating and creating meaningful stories.

The Filmmaking Residency was organized by the KAP Film & Television Academy in partnership with the Oyo State Government, and supported by Sony and Kontakt Pro Nigeria.
Representing the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, the Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, commended the academy for its significant contribution to the state’s cultural and creative development.

Representatives from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters were also present, along with esteemed Kabiyesis who graced the event with their blessings and royal presence.



A Celebration of Talent, Culture, and Passion
The night was filled with color and culture, featuring a performance by the Oyo State Cultural Troupe, whose traditional music and dance energized the atmosphere.





In his inspiring address, Kunle Afolayan emphasized the importance of discipline, creativity, and cultural identity in filmmaking.
“Attention to detail and commitment to creativity are what make great filmmakers,” he said. “These students have shown that when talent is nurtured in the right environment, excellence follows.”
Distinguished mentors and industry icons including Joke Silva, Tunde Kelani, Kemi Adesoye, Olarotimi Fakunle, Lola Maja, and Yemi Jolaoso also attended the ceremony, offering invaluable feedback and encouragement to the graduating students.















Building the Next Generation of African Storytellers
The KAP Filmmaking Residency continues to fulfill the academy’s mission of training, empowering, and inspiring the next generation of African storytellers, while positioning Oyo State as a leading hub for film, culture, and tourism.
















A Night of Celebration: Music, Rain, and Pure Joy
Despite the evening drizzle that almost rained on our parade, the after-party concert turned into a night to remember. With electrifying performances by BUGA and the Raptor Live Band, guests danced, laughed, and celebrated under the open sky.












The top three short films received plaques and awards, and the air was filled with cheers, good food, and vibrant energy, it was a great way to end the day
